Gelida Castle

First documented in the year 945 it belongs to the fortification line that controlled the Penedès region. The castle is located on a rocky spur bordered by the Cantillepa and Sant Miquel torrents and is made up of a group of monuments which allows us to track the history of the land during the last millennium. The castle towers and walls show us the many transformations and historical events that have affected them and enable us to know something of the life of our ancestors.

The Sant Pere del Castell Church, mentioned for the first time in the year 998, was the parish church of Gelida until 1871. The building allows us to track both architectural history and the history of art down the years. From its origins, the surroundings of the church were devoted to the medieval cemetery. Archaeological research has discovered many anthropomorphical tombs from the 10th and 11th centuries.

The Interpretation Centre of the Gelida Castle is a place that offers information to visitors and has been built using the castle structure from the 14th century. It has two floors with an information point and a shop as well as a permanent exhibition about the history and significance of the castle.
